Cool artist alert- Agata Oleksiak!

Agata Oleksiak (now solely known as Olek) grew up in Poland and she took creative refuge in colorful crafts but it wasn't until 2002 that she picked up a crochet hook and her former hobby turned into an obsession. Now an established artist, she will show at the Smithsonian in 2012. Olek covers everything from the mundane household objects to public sculptured to people in her loopy yarn confections. Her largest installation to date is a 15'x14' studio apartment, wherein every wall, picture frame, television and toilet wrapper in its own sweater.



"Life and art are inseparable. The movies I watch while crocheting influence my work, and my work dictates the films I select. I crochet everything that enters my space. Sometime, it's a text message, a medical report, found objects. There is the unraveling, the ephemeral part of my work that never lets me forget about the limited life of the art object and art concept. What do I intend to reveal? You have to pull the end of the yarn and unravel the story behind the crochet."

At a glance, you might find her work a little extreme, a little over the top or some even find it nauseous but if you inspect closer, you will see beauty in each object, in my opinion. Her use of colors are fantastic and her work is amazing and intriguing. Now, to be honest, I wouldn't want something as extreme as these for my own home but I thought her work are very interesting and inspiring. What are your thoughts about her work?
